Claude Code —
Agentic Coding in Practice

You scope tasks for the agent, review every intermediate result and correct failed runs.

  • 3 days
  • approx. 6 h per day
  • ⅓ theory · ⅔ hands-on
  • German or English
  • in-house, open or remote

The common thread

A workflow with gates

You split the work with the agent into phases. Each phase produces a reviewable result; at the gate a human approves the next phase.

  1. Analysisunderstand the code
  2. Gate
  3. Reviewcheck assumptions
  4. Gate
  5. Planningsteps and tests
  6. Gate
  7. Implementationstep by step
  8. Gate
  9. Testincl. security
  10. Gate
  11. Deploytraceable

On day 2 you take a real feature through all phases. On day 3 you make the gates reliable with skills, hooks and automated checks.

Who the course is for

Audience

Experienced developers and tech leads who want to use coding agents seriously in their team, or already do and are hitting limits.

You bring

Solid programming experience, Git, command line, experience with tests and build tools.

Not required

Prior experience with LLMs, prompting or coding agents. No Java knowledge either; the example project is readable without it.

What you can do afterwards

  • explain how a coding agent works and avoid the typical beginner mistakes
  • pick the right tool for each task: CLAUDE.md, rules, skills, subagents, hooks, MCP, plugins
  • curate context deliberately and recognise quality loss in a full context window
  • set up a phased workflow from analysis to deploy, with gates and reviewable results
  • make a codebase agent-ready and add tests and security checks as gates
  • version and evolve skills, rules and workflows as a team

Schedule: three days, one project

You build your own small project from an empty directory. A reference project is available for comparison.

Day 1

Understand

How agents work and how to steer them

  • LLM and agent fundamentalsTokens, reasoning, why models are stateless and answer differently; model choice, benchmarks vs. reality
  • The Claude Code toolkitCLAUDE.md, rules, skills, commands, subagents, hooks, output styles, MCP, plugins: which tool for which job
  • Prompting and context engineeringStructuring prompts, curating context, context rot, hallucinations, avoiding overload

Day 2

Work

From the daily loop to the end-to-end phased workflow

  • Working with Claude CodeIterative workflows, review loops, human in the loop, approvals, session and context management, cost
  • The phased workflowEvery phase with a gate and a reviewable result; plan mode, spec-driven development, vertical slicing, parallel agents
  • Workflow frameworks comparedQRSPI, BMAD, OpenSpec, GitHub Spec Kit, and when a framework adds more ceremony than value

Day 3

Scale

Codebase, infrastructure, security, team

  • Agent-ready codebaseProject structure, CLAUDE.md pitfalls, RFCs as planning artefacts, tickets, handoffs, CI/CD
  • Skills, tools and infrastructureSkills per phase, hooks, autonomous Git handling, MCP vs. CLI, vendor lock-in
  • Testing and AI securityTests and security checks as gates, abuse cases, agentic security reviews, limiting the blast radius
  • Team workflowsSkills and rules in the repo, sharing plugins, consolidation across teams, quality and skill loss through delegation

How you learn

  • Live demos: real sessions, failures included.
  • Hands-on in every module: about 30 minutes of practice per module.
  • End-of-day review: “What did I delegate, and where did I still need to understand what happened?”
  • Up to date: we check version-specific details against the official documentation before every course.
  • Materials: slides, exercises and quiz online.

Setup

  • Your own laptop with install rights and internet access, or a cloud workstation on AWS per participant
  • Access to Claude Code; we clarify how it is provided when you request the course
  • You receive setup instructions before the course

Frequently asked questions

Is the course only for Java developers?

No. The example project is a small Java service; the concepts apply to any language. For in-house courses we adapt the examples to your stack.

We already use Copilot or Cursor. Is the course still worth it?

Yes. A large part of the content (context engineering, phased workflow, agent-ready codebase, security gates, team workflows) applies to any coding agent.

Is a shorter version possible?

In-house, yes: we combine the modules around your focus areas. For a start there is also the one-day course Claude Code & Cowork Compact.

Which language is the course held in?

German or English. Prompts, code and the command line are in English anyway.

What does the course cost?

Prices on request, depending on format, group size and customisation.
