Training environment
One cloud workstation
per participant
Everyone gets their own Linux VM on AWS, set up with Claude Code and the course material. You work via SSH or in the browser, in the classroom as well as remote.
- one VM per person
- SSH or Remote Control
- on site and remote
- centrally managed
How it fits together
Claude Code, code, database and services run on the VM in the cloud. Your own computer displays the session.
Participants
in the classroom or at home
- Claude desktop appSSH session in the Code tab
- Browserclaude.ai/code
- Claude app on the phonesame session on the go
- Terminalssh, then claude
AWS cloud
own network, access only from approved networks
- Ubuntu
- Claude Code
- tmux
- Python
- PostgreSQL
- course material
- sample service
Trainer
manages all workstations centrally
- Setup and teardownall VMs by script
- Software and materialupdates to all VMs at once
- Gitone repository per participant
- Accessto every VM, to help and demonstrate
Two ways onto the VM
Both ways run Claude Code on the VM. Which one fits depends on the network and the device.
Main route
SSH session
The Claude desktop app opens an SSH connection to the VM; in the Code tab you work as if locally. Or in a
terminal: ssh, then claude. Requires port 22 to be open from your network to the VM.
Additionally
Remote Control
The VM connects outbound via HTTPS to claude.ai; no inbound port is needed. You use the session in the browser, in the Claude app or on your phone. The session keeps running when the laptop is closed.
What you gain
- Same start for everyone: every VM is set up before the course begins.
- Company laptops are enough: on your own machine the Claude app or a browser plus an SSH client will do.
- Same on site and remote: in the classroom, at home or mixed, everyone works in the same environment.
- Cloud development: code, database and services run on a server, as they will in production.
- Quick help: the trainer looks into any VM directly, without screen sharing.
What the trainer controls
- Create, start, stop and tear down VMs, all by script
- Distribute course material and software updates to all VMs
- Create one Git repository per participant and grant access
- More power during the course: change the VM size, data and services are kept
- Access packages per participant: key and instructions by e-mail
Security
- Own network and firewall rules; SSH only from approved networks
- One SSH key per person; only the public part goes to AWS
- The VMs have no permissions in the AWS account
- After the course the VMs are deleted together with all credentials
What you need
- A laptop with a browser or the Claude app and an SSH client (built into Windows 10 and 11)
- A Claude account; with Claude Team or Enterprise an owner enables Remote Control
- For the SSH route: outbound port 22 from your network
